How to update your living room on a budget
This past year hasn’t been easy for lots of people. For some money has been seriously restricted. If you are one of these, or you are simply watching the pennies, then this post is for you. Here we are bringing together some of our top ideas to update your living room on a budget.
Sleep on it
This is one of the best tips for any large purchase you intend to make. Add the item to your virtual shopping bag but make sure you don’t click to buy until you have had a substantial amount of time to evaluate if you really want to spend your hard earned money on it. It is all too easy to give in to the impulse and thrill of just purchasing something straight away but this is no fun if it breaks the bank and you actually end up regretting it.
Shop around
I have websites I adore for all their beautifully curated photographs however, I am aware that the items they sell are out of my price range. I then look to recreate the look by shopping around. Don’t forget the potential treasure trove of a charity shop, people often clear out their homes and donate items that have barely been used.
Every now and then you can find exactly what you’re looking for. Having said that, it’s only a bargain if you actually wanted it in the first place. Aimlessly wandering and purchasing without purpose isn’t going to help your bank balance.I found a gorgeous coffee table at a charity shop recently, which sits proudly in the centre of the room, with my favourite UK photo book which documents our most special moments as a family.
Wall to Wall
Often something quite simple such as some new wall art, canvases or tapestries will completely change the feel of a room and it doesn’t need to break the bank. There are literally hundreds of choices online to choose from. It is such a great option to add your personality to the room.
Think about small ways you can add a bit of bling to your walls. It doesn’t need to be anything too expensive. There are some fantastic disco neon sign designs available these days or perhaps you could even look at getting a local art student to pain a mural?
Outlets
Another option to update your décor on a budget is by looking at outlet stores. Shops often have a clearance or outlet part of their store or website and whilst the choice isn’t the same it may well pay off to keep an eye on those that you love. Every now and then you will be fortunate enough to find exactly what you wanted but at a much reduced price.
Branding
Try not to assume that because something is from a big well known brand it is better. This may not always be the case. It is important not to try to live the same life as your friends. It may be that they have all the latest gadgets and new furniture, but they might also have credit to afford it. Try and keep to living within your means and remember that your self worth is not defined by what you own.
