Review: The UK’s largest online search tool of childcare providers
Recently I discovered an online social networking platform for finding local childcare providers and jobs. With a pre-schooler and a 7-year-old this website/app is a game changer for us with all our different childcare needs, so I wanted to share how it works then other parents can benefit too.
What childcare services are provided for?
Childcare.co.uk literally is a one stop-shop for childcare at your fingertips. Over 2 million people have registered on the site, making this the UK’s largest online community of parents, nannies, babysitters, child minders, nurseries, schools and private tutors.
I used my home postcode in Maidstone, Kent to carry out my search and within a 5-mile radius nearly 600 childcare providers from the directory were listed.
How do I search the childcare.co.uk directory?
First choose the type of childcare you are looking for, followed by a mile radius and your postcode. There is a useful results filter if you only want to see nurseries that offer free childcare entitlement for example and there is an advanced search facility to narrow the search further.
How much information is there on each childcare provider?
This was the best part for me, each provider has a profile with really detailed information. Nursery profiles include opening hours and fees, even parent reviews, so you can quickly rule an option in or out. Babysitters include their experience, qualifications, availability, fees, an about me and a photo. When you’re ready to make an enquiry, you can message a provider securely, directly from their profile page – so quick and easy!
Childcare.co.uk also has lots of tips for choosing the right childcare provider for you and it signposts free information and resources on a whole host of parenting Help & Advice page. There is also a Childcare Checks page, recommended before entering into a contract for any childcare provision.
Is it free to use?
To use the messaging service, you will need to register and create your account, which is completely free and a simple process. Then you can create a profile, where you can advertise your current childcare requirements. It is also free for the childcare providers themselves to register. You can upgrade to Gold Membership, currently £14.99 per month. As a gold member all providers can reply to you for free and you have access to the direct contact details of members, plus many more benefits.
What do I think of childcare.co.uk?
This is such a handy tool for parents. As well as reading reviews for local schools and nurseries, I think another big plus, is how this website is so successful in an emergency. Say your childminder is poorly or a babysitter pulls out, you can advertise your exact needs and available providers will reach out to you. This has been especially helpful for parents in lock-down, when schools and nurseries were closed. It must also be so handy when you’re new to an area and I wish I had known about this before my own nursery search.
